Corporate culture

The commercial success and general quality of what we do is directly dependent on the qualification, commitment and effort of our employees. In order to safeguard those attributes over the long term, the BAUER Group deploys a strategically founded and sustainably oriented human resources policy. One of the core elements in our view is a sound corporate culture, aimed at safeguarding a stable working environment and so providing all our staff with secure and satisfying employment.

Satisfaction

We place great value on the satisfaction of our employees, because only happy workers who enjoy their jobs can drive forward our business to continued success. Surveys regularly indicate that our employees are proud to work for Bauer. This is also reflected in the high degree of loyalty demonstrated to the company – specifically in the long average period of service (we now have quite a few people who have worked for us for 40 and even 50 years), in the consistently low fluctuation rate, and in the fact that in many cases the children and grandchildren of retired or still active employees are keen to become part of the Bauer family too.

Identification

An equally important factor determining satisfaction is a person's ability to identify with the work that he or she is doing. Our aim is always to provide newly recruited staff with appropriate preparation for their role within the company, offering them assistance and support so that they quickly feel at home. As part of that approach, we entrust our employees with a degree of responsibility right from the early days of their time with us, so as to encourage independent thinking and to help them optimize their work performance.

Trust

Trust is the basis of any successful human interaction – particularly in the work environment. We trust in our employees, and we want them to trust in us. This is demonstrated, among other ways, in the culture of openness and lively dialogue which we have engendered within the Group, aimed at ensuring that everyone feels free to express critical views and make constructive contributions where appropriate.

International character

As an international concern with more than 110 subsidiary companies worldwide, we regard it as a commitment to provide our German staff working abroad and our international staff working in Germany with a pleasant working climate, and to ease their entry into the company by means of a structured process of introduction and induction. Based on our close cooperation with customers and other business partners all over the world, we are convinced that it is always beneficial to have locals on board and to provide our staff with cultural training specific to where they are being deployed.

The BAUER Group has always adhered to national and international values and principles of good, responsible corporate governance. Our activities spread across almost every country in the world require us to ensure that our employees always respect and observe local values and standards. This particularly includes honesty and fairness in dealings with our customers, business partners and other employees.

Training and development

The training and development of our employees is one of the foundation stones of our corporate strategy. We regard the task of providing our experienced staff of tomorrow with appropriate in-house training as a worthwhile investment in the future. We also place great value on continuing professional development: All our employees – and since recently also business partners and customers – are able to benefit from the seminars and training courses we offer. To that end, in early 2009 we established BAUER Training Center GmbH as a training and development competence centre both for in-house and customer training needs.

Work-life balance

We in the BAUER Group focus closely on achieving a reasonable balance between work commitment and private life. This is embodied in a range of flexible part-time working models and in flexitime arrangements for full-time staff, as well as in our support for children's day nurseries and creches. Our corporate culture is also expressed by the way in which our employees and their families are able to enjoy a variety of leisure-time activities together, such as those organized by the company's own Leisure, Sports and Cultural Committee.
