Cut-Off Walls Hinze Dam
Hinze Dam, Queensland, Australia
The Hinze Dam is located on Nerang River in the South Eastern part of Queensland in Australia. It provides the major part of the water supply for the Gold Coast region. During Stage 3 the dam will be raised by 15 meters to approximately 108.25 meters and will double up the water capacity to 300 million liters. As part of the Stage 3 Project there is the need to con-
struct a cut-off wall to avoid piping through the foundations on the right abutment. The cut-off wall starts at the existing dam and will achieve the length of 220 meters with the thick-
ness of 0.80 meter and a depth of over 50 meters. The cutoff wall extends through a section of the central core of the dam and is em-
bedded into the bedrock layer. This method is the most appropriate solution for the right abutment.
