Off-site decontamination via selective excavation through soil replacement drilling

env_2 On the premises of a chemical factory nearby Leipzig massive soil and ground water contamination has been proven in the area of a former chlorobenzene production. The target of the decontamination measures is to reduce the soil contamination to protect the ground water and to decrease the solvent evaporation potential.

The chosen decontamination option consists of two parts: soil replacement via large diameter drilling on the one hand, and hydraulic measures for the recovery of chlorobenzene from the ground water on the other hand.

Nimr Water Treatment Project

nimr_reedbed_1

The project is bound to develop and set up an effective treatment plant for the residual waters produced from the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) oil wells in its Nimr Oil Field with a capacity to process a minimum of 45,000 m3/day produced water.

The BAUER Reed Bed Concept is designed for treatment purpose and to grow biomass as a secondary benefit. Additionally the characteristics of the water to be treated offer the possibility to create benefits by recovering Sodium Chloride as a source for salt. In its size and technical approach of developing a water reuse strategy this project is unique in the world.

Additional values are created using this treatment option in many ways, such as:

  • Oil Recovery from the produced water
  • Biomass to be utilised for energy production or other purposes
  • Salt production
  • Energy savings by using a gravity flow system
  • CO2 emission reduction
