Montreal – In Quebec, a Spanish-Canadian consortium is building the Nouvelle Autoroute 30 highway, bypassing Montreal at the South towards the A20 and A40 in the West. BAUER Foundations Canada Inc., the local subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, Germany, is constructing the foundations of the Beauharnois Bridge, a contract worth about 30 million Canadian dollars (some 20 million euros). The bridge runs over the Beauharnois Canal, a bypass of the St. Lawrence Canal. The waterway forms part of an international network linking the great lakes around the industrial region of Detroit, Milwaukee and Chicago with the Hudson Bay and the Atlantic.
The Beauharnois Canal was blasted out of hard rock back in the 1930s, in order to make the St. Lawrence Canal passable for shipping. Downstream, the two canals converge at a lock, which is where the Beauharnois Bridge will be located. Bauer Foundations Canada has been contracted to build a total of 138 bored piles: 60 on land for the bridge thrust blocks, and 78 in the water, from a pontoon, for the pillars. Five drilling rigs are being deployed: three BAUER BG 40 and two BAUER BG 28 units.

Large-scale Project for Bauer Spezialtiefbau at Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz in Munich
Munich – The Bavarian capital Munich is resolving a difficult traffic situation in the southwest of the city with an extensive tunnel construction project. Due to a massively intertwined intersection of major approach roads, the daily commuter traffic is severely affected on a regular basis by long traffic jams. Through a programme of strategic civil engineering works due for completion in 2015, traffic will be redirected below grade into tunnels and allowed to flow more smoothly as a result of cleverly designed access roads.
The civil engineering works at Mittlerer Ring Southwest and Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz include the construction of a six to eight-lane road tunnel with an overall length of 2,400 m and a further 400 m long open-cut section. The road tunnel links up directly with the A 95 and A 96 federal motorways. BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH of Schrobenhausen was awarded all major foundation construction works by the main contractor, a Joint Venture between W&F Ingenieurbau AG, Berger Bau and Bauer Spezialtiefbau.

Plans include a theatre and museum, a number of hotels and schools as well as a tram system. The Heart of Doha project will be a shining example for bridging past to the present, and embracing modernization and yet observe tradition.
In this context, Bauer has been awarded the foundation works, consisting of 1503 lm secant pile wall, dia. 900 mm, 109 nos. bored cast in situ piles, dia. 1200 mm; 413 nos. bored cast in situ piles, dia. 900 mm; 77 nos. bored cast in situ piles, dia. 1400 mm; 600 nos. anchors, 22.0 m length; Excavation 868,069 m³.

BAUER Group constructs the world’s largest commercial Reed Bed Water Treatment Plant
Purification of oil-polluted water? In environmental terms there can hardly be a more urgent problem waiting to be solved. As soon as the term ’oil production’ is heard, one automatically thinks of the Gulf of Mexico and the disturbing scenes of the enormous oil slick choking flora and fauna alike. In this scenario, oil and water appear to be so irreconcilably linked that one would find it inconceivable for oil and water to be separated by vegatation alone.
This pioneering development is being realised at a water treatment project in the Sultanate of Oman on the Arabic peninsular. Here, the construction and equipment company Bauer, based in Schrobenhausen, Germany, is in the process of deploying a purely biological technique for the treatment of oil-polluted water on a large scale. Simple reed plants are used for the purification of process water from the oil production.

BAUER Malaysia constructs the foundation and underground floors for the 348 Sentral project in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – 348 Sentral is the name of a new large-scale construction project underway on an 8,500 square metre site in the heart of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The complex comprises a shopping mall and three high-rise towers, rising up to 31 floors, which will house a hotel and residential units. MRCB Engineering contracted BAUER Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to plan and construct the foundations and underground floors on a turnkey basis. This involved installing some 7,000 square metres of diaphragm wall and 161 bored piles in 1200 mm and 1500 mm diameter.
A notable feature of the pit construction is that it employs two different techniques – top-down and bottom-up. In the top-down area on one side of the pit the 161bored piles are being installed, including 58 plunge- in-columns to support the top down slab. In the area of the pit being constructed by the conventional bottom-up method, the 800 mm thick diaphragm wall will be retained by 300 temporary anchors and pre-stressed steel stiffening struts. The special feature of this technique is that the struts tension against the permanent ceiling slabs of the basement floors which were constructed by the top-down method. This minimizes the strut lengths.

Bauer Maschinen at bauma China 2010
Shanghai – In November 2010, BAUER Maschinen GmbH was once again represented at bauma China 2010 in Shanghai. The German specialist foundation equipment manufacturer has for many years operated its own manufacturing facilities in China, at Tianjin and Shanghai. At bauma China 2010 it showcased the highlights of its China production.
The importance of bauma China is by now undisputed: the exhibition has further consolidated its position as the leading Trade Fair for Construction Machinery and Equipment for the Chinese market and the entire East Asian region. Whilst the majority of visitors are of course Chinese, the international attendance is growing ever larger.
Bauer showcased five machines: two base machines GB 46 and GB 60 equipped with hydraulic diaphragm wall grabs and three rotary drilling rigs of the BG series – BG 20 H, BG 25 and BG 36 - for kelly drilling operations. All machines originated from Tianjin and Shanghai. On every day of the Trade Fair, Bauer Maschinen also exhibited equipment by its subsidiaries Klemm and Prakla at the Shanghai Works – an anchor drilling rig and a water well drilling rig.
