HEALTH AND SAFETY

The health and safety of employees, customers and other business partners are assigned top priority in everything the BAUER Group does. In order to minimize the risk of accident on our construction sites and in our production, we routinely carry out training and implement other measures to improve occupational health and safety. These include first-aid courses and safety briefings, as well as driving safety training and seminars on dealing with hazardous situations abroad.

A key aspect of occupational health and safety work is risk assessment. Across the Group, our employees have permanent access to a wide range of pre-compiled and continually updated risk assessments. Systematic appraisal of all aspects of working processes and practices based on such assessments seeks to identify how injury or damage to property is caused, how hazards can be eliminated, and what protective measures need to be undertaken right from the planning phase in order to minimize accident and health risks.

Regular reviews and audits document the consistent implementation of our health and safety standards. By means of certification programmes such as OHRIS, OSHAS, AMS-Bau and SCC we ensure that our occupational safety systems meet the requirements of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

We undertake a range of campaigns to continuously raise awareness of health and safety and environmental issues among our workforce. Relevant tuition also forms an integral part of introductory seminars for apprentices and newly recruited employees. Bauer also offers its staff in Schrobenhausen private consultations with doctors from the occupational health service of the "BG Bau" construction industry employer's liability insurance association. An annual safety competition, poster campaigns and in-house reporting procedures additionally raise employees' awareness of the safety aspects of their work on a routine basis.

The issue has become even more important to the company since it launched deep drilling operations. Reflecting the importance of health and safety and environmental policy as a fundamental concern of senior management, the corporate function has got the new designation HSE (Health, Safety & Environment). By more focused implementation of BAUER HSE standards and direct assignment of responsibility to management and individual employees, the company is seeking to attain the goal of zero accidents. A key factor in this is also the striving to improve and expand management systems at all international locations and on all projects. The HSE system is subject to an annual review which appraises the degree of goal attainment to date and sets new goals.

SICHER MIT SYSTEM

In 2010, BAUER Group subsidiary SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH was awarded the "Sicher mit System" certificate for its successful integration of occupational health and safety practices. The award was made by the employer's liability insurance association responsible for the raw materials and chemicals industries (BG RCI) following a detailed review of the company's administrative procedures, machinery manufacturing operations and various construction divisions, including inspection tours of selected construction sites.
